Swing Dance: A Hobby

My main hobby outside of mathematics is dancing. My wife, Sara Lapan, and I are avid swing and blues dancers. Long ago we used to run Swing Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan's official swing dance organization. Now we just fit whatever dancing we can into our busy schedules.

Swing Dance Education

Over the past decade, Sara and I have been active in organizing and teaching swing dance in Chicago, Michigan, and Oklahoma. During this time, we have developed curriculum for introductory to advanced dance classes covering lindy hop, charleston, balboa, ballroomin' blues, jookin' blues, and drag blues. We employ modern theories of partner dancing and connection. On occasion we still teach dance workshops.
