Muthu Krishnamurthy, University of Iowa Linear independence of automorphic L-functions and converse theorems Abstract: A typical converse theorem characterizes automorphic representations of the general linear group in terms of the analytic properties of a suitable family of Rankin-Selberg L-functions. In this talk I will explain my work (joint with Andrew Booker} which exploits the linear independence of automorphic L-functions to generalize a converse theorem due to Cogdell and Piatetski-Shapiro.
